In a heavy bottom pan, over medium-high heat, heat pan drippings and sauté onions stirring frequently to caramelize.
Add beans, water, and Cholula Smoky Chipotle Carnitas Seasoning Mix. Bring to a simmer, stirring, until beans are soft and much of the liquid has been absorbed. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Place beans in a blender or food processor and puree until smooth. Hold warm for service or refrigerate for later use.
Chef's Tip!
The pan drippings from the Cholula Smoky Chipotle Pork Belly Bites, or any smoked or roasted pork, beef or chicken will work well in this recipe as a substitute for lard for an added layer of flavor.
